How Community Members Can Help

To our supporters:

Many people have asked us how they can continue to contribute to the various charitable organizations supported by the University of Minnesota’s Community Fund drive in light of the very difficult labor relations situation here at the U.

We suggest that it is still possible to make contributions to the social service and other organizations that make Minnesota such a strong and vibrant state.

It is possible to contribute directly to these organizations and other organizations, to which you would normally contribute, through their websites, rather than making your contributions through the University’s CFD.

This is are the organizations which participate in the CFD, along with a list of their websites:

Community Health Charities Minnesota

Community Shares of Minnesota
(formerly Community Solutions Fund)

Federation Administrative and Fundraising Expenses

Greater Twin Cities United Way

Minnesota Environmental Fund

Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless

United Arts

United Negro College Fund

If you make a decision to follow up on providing your contributions in this way, please take the time to let President Bruininks know why you are not participating in the University’s fund drive. We have heard from an increasing number of our supporters who are doing this, and we appreciate your continuing efforts to make the University administration aware of your intention to shed light on the need for economic justice at the University of Minnesota.

We are also still in need of support for our workers who were out on the picket lines. We thank the many unions, organizations and individuals who contributed to our mutual support fund. We ask again for your support, as our members receive their “zero” paychecks from their time on the picket lines. Your donations can be mailed to:

U Workers Support Fund
c/o AFSCME 3800 & 3937

Donations can also be made online at: www.uworkers.org

Thank you.
